what medium did you use for the shading? is that water color? did you brush out ink?

I use Speedball Super Black India Ink applied with a brush. Lots o' thin layers, and a little bit of black colored pencil at the very end for the darkest darks, texture, etc. The linework is applied with a Hunt no. 102 nib.
